Check frequently as water expands during the heating up period.
Open if the boiler is to be cut in on a cold line;
Main steam stop can be opened when there is no other boiler on the
same steam line.
Close after steam has formed and has blown all air from boiler.
Raise slowly, usually 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours, depending upon type, size
and condition of boiler.
Temperature of water should be raised at a rate of 100°F per hour.

Make sure valves reseat properly; if valves fail to reseat, lift them a

Oil; Maintain ignition, observe flame and adjust dampers; check
accuracy by flue-gas analysis.
Blow down gauge glass and water column (observe promptness of
return of water in glass).
Keep at proper level.
Cutting in boiler
Frequently, determine true level of water with different methods.
Watch and monitor gauge glass.
Frequency depends on water tests.
If closed, open main steam stop valve slowly.
