A backflow preventer, such as the type shown in figure 5-12, should be installed on the discharge side of a flushometer. A backflow preventer should be installed on the supply line of a float valve in a water closet tank if the tank outlet is below the flood level rim of the closet bowl.
A detail of a diaphragm type of flushing valve is shown in figure 5-13. The diaphragm type of valve consists of an upper and lower chamber. These chambers are separated by the diaphragm and relief valve. The lower chamber is connected directly to the incoming water supply. This incoming water is the flushing water and also the water shuts the valve off after the flushing period. The valve is flushed by the diaphragm and the water pressure in the upper chamber.
